Hello

I’m Helen. I’m a UK Midwife living in Singapore. I understand the importance of preparing parents for their journey through pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. It can be a very exciting time but equally scary for some. Having someone to walk beside you on that journey, encouraging you, believing in you and educating you on the way can make you less fearful and accomplish things that you never thought possible.

My belief is that every birth should be a positive birth. All parents should be able to make informed decisions without being judged but feeling empowered and supported by their health care providers.

I have 25+ years of midwifery experience ranging from high tech hospitals in Cambridge UK (as a midwifery sister) and Tianjin PROC to rural Congo mission hospital and community based care facilitating home births in the UK.

I love birth and I would love for you to love it too. I love what I do. I love working with people like you and providing you with a tool kit for a gentle birth and transition into parenthood.

Please contact me if you would like me to walk that journey with you.

My Story

My career began by working alongside a nurse midwife in an African mission hospital and I embarked on my own nurse training in Jersey and Southampton in 1990. With 5+ years experience as a nurse behind me, I started training to be a midwife in Cambridge (UK) in 1996. With 25+ years of midwifery experience in 3 continents and having seen change in trends and practice, I have a plethora of tricks and tips.

No choice is right or wrong. Whatever choices you make, I can support you.

I moved to Singapore in 2018 with my husband and youngest son. Having taken a break from practising as a midwife to support my first love - my husband through a start-up business and my sons through GCSE’s, A levels and IB, I was keen to return to my second love - midwifery. During those years I supported friends and family through childbirth and the postnatal period, realising that I loved this part of midwifery most of all. Training as a doula was the obvious choice, creating the perfect blend of midwifery knowledge and doula support to ensure that you are in the best hands.

I am passionate about empowering expectant parents to be the best that they can be. I believe that all parents should make informed choices when it comes to pregnancy and birth and with my experience, knowledge and training I will assist in helping you to do this.

My expertise is in unassisted birth and water births, having had 2 home water births myself and lead professional for a caseload of over 1000 unassisted births. Having worked in a world leading obstetric teaching hospital, I also have excellent experience and knowledge in high tech birth, birth after abuse, teenage pregnancy and birth, and pre and post marriage counselling.

I am a lactation counsellor trained by the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (WHO & Unicef). The initiative supports and promotes breastfeeding for the well-being of all mothers and babies.
